Living in an island

Living in an island has its pros and cons. For some people being surrounded by sea makes them feel a little special. It brings a little mystery and excitement around it and to the thought of living on an island. One such Island is Penang Island, it is a highly developed island located in the north west of peninsular Malaysia.

There are beaches that boasts of pristine powdery beach and crystal sea water. Best is to avoid the Batu Feringghi area during school holidays and holiday periods as it will be crowded with visitors from out of the state. Food in the town area is amazing. Penang is known of it's famous hawker fare, famous food such as Hokkien Mee and Char Koay Teow.

Residents living in fear in Penang.

Hillside development projects in Penang some claim that it lacks control and regulation by the authorities. The inhabitants of 18 double-storey houses in Taman Lau Geok Swee in Paya Terubong, island Penang, are anxious that their buildings will collapse soon following widening cracks in their premises over the past few years. The recent tragedy serves as a reminder on the dangers of developing housing projects on hillslope land.

Rampant development projects have been mushrooming around the Penang hill slope areas with total disregard for the safety and well being of the occupants. What more the preservation of nature and it's flora and fauna.

Penang, my island

Peanng Island has long been touted as the pearl of the orient. the island has an old English charm to it as it was once colonized by the British Empire. The heritage and colonial building designs still well preserved till this day. It's uniqueness comes from the the infusion of both modernity and colonial heritage, another notable thing about Penang is it's food. The Penang Island restaurant scene has all the usual national food chains and fast food places, but part of the fun of traveling is sampling the local food cuisine. With that in mind, branch out and give a few locally-owned Penang Island restaurants a shot. You won't regret it.

Merry Xmas

It's that time of the year where in some places it will snow but not in where I live where it's sun all year round. Nevertheless the X'mas cheer and mood still persists strongly here. Rain or shine, Snow or no Snow, it's always Xmas mood that envelopes all at this time of the year.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all of you a very Merry Christmas and wonderful New Year.

What Is Left Or Right Wing

I read about this in the papers practically everyday yet I never really knew the difference between a leftist and a rightist or a lefter and a righter. Was never interested in politics anyway. I stumbled on this website that attempts to clear the cobwebs to these common political terms that we hear and see everyday. Thought I would be doing someone out there a favour by posting it here. What Is Left Or Right Wing?.

Penang loses it's charm

Lately articles have been splashed all over the local dailies on how Penang has lost it's charm. The Pearl of the Orient has stopped sparkling. The sea is murky, the beaches are dirty, traffic is bad,the charm is gone...Penang has changed.

This tiny island used to be a top tourist destination for foreigners who would fly thousand of miles just to lie under a coconut tree. Not anymore these days, tourists are heading to other neighbouring countries instead, they have coconut trees there too! Number of tourists coming to Penang has dropped dramatically. The tourism industry in Penang is at an all time low.

Has Penang really changed that much?

Maybe it has. Maybe Penang has changed. The world has changed too! Earth is day by day becoming more and more polluted, and there's nothing anyone can do to prevent that from happening. The evolution of science and technology has undoubtedly improved our lives...but the emission from vehicles is also killing our ozone and so are the chemicals from our 3 in 1 shampoos that trickle into the sea killing the fishes. With great powers come great responsibilities,as with great technologies come great responsibilities. We have excelled in one but have failed in the other. We have only ourselves to blame.

To save Penang,we have to change! Stop throwing that ball of crumpled used tissue out from your open car window when you think no one's looking. Stop leaving that empty can of Coke under your parked car and then drive off...

Whoa! We have to stop doing all that!

Come to think of it,Penang even without it's spakling pearl will still always be the same old charming Penang to me.

London - what an experience

London! I have always wanted to go to London. Big Ben,Tower Bridge,Trafalgar Square,SOHO,Harrods,Oxford Street,King's Cross,Bond Street,Piccadilly.....all sound so familiar. A case of playing too much Monopoly when we were kids.

By a stroke of good fortune,I got to visit UK last week. The trip was short nevertheless. Only three days! I was on business for one day and had two days of leisure time. Spent a night in Great Chesterford in Essex and two nights in London. It was great fun. It felt as if I had suddenly transformed to one of those pieces on a Monopoly board. Finally seeing with my own eyes and setting foot on all those famous properties on the Monopoly board. What an experience!

The start of my blog

Blog?...What's a blog?...I keep seeing this word. On magazines, on the TV, in the papers and I have even see it printed on business cards.

What's a blog? I seemed rather stupid when I once asked this guy from Microsoft Malaysia who had this link to his blog printed on his business card. He told me it was short for a "weblog". I kept quiet...said "righttt"...and immediately changed the topic.

What's a weblog? A log book on the web? What's the big deal?

For a guy that has worked in the IT industry for nearly 8 years, and not knowing what "blogs" were is a big no-no. So,here I am trying out a blog. Got to keep with the times. Got to go with the flow.
